Treaty of Montreal
This document is the Treaty of Montreal of 1701. It is written in French and signed on the last page by the American Indian representatives who were present at the negotiations. It is held in the Canadian Library and Archives in the Chevalier Calleires Collection of Peace Treaties. In the treaty the French and Huron and Algonquin tribes in the Great Lakes Region agree to stop conflicts related to the Fur Wars. Some of the chiefs seal the promise with a gift of Iroquois prisoners. The Iroquois were allied with the Dutch at this time. Courtesy of the Library and Archives Canada.
